In New York preparations have started for organization of a meeting of the Montenegrin emigrants from North America under the title "THRU REFERENDUM TO SOVEREIGNTY" to which will be invited guests from all around the world.
The meeting will be held at the end of March or the beginning of April 2002. The host for this event is the Independent Cultural Center in New York. Organizers are also from the Cultural Center "Rumija" in Chicago, the Montenegrin Association from Toronto, and the Montenegrin Association of America with its center in San Francisco. Those are the organizations which for many years have been actively involved in mobilizing Montenegrin emigrants through numerous activities and who successfully organized the Montenegrin World Congress in New York in 1999 and in Cetinje in year 2000.
The program will include, among other things, a massive gathering in front of the United Nations building on the East River as a manifestation of support for Montenegrin independence and sovereignty. Our expectation is also that at this meeting in New York, a decision will be taken about purchasing the building which will be used for the first Montenegrin Orthodox Church in North America.
The Montenegrin Orthodox Church, Diocese of North America has been registered with official government agencies in Washington as a religious, nonprofit corporation already for more than two years.
A detailed program and exact date for this Meeting will be subsequently announced.
For the Coordination Committee of the Montenegrin Association of the North America
Blazo Sredanovic, President.
