Southampton, England

There is not too much in Southampton, so we took an excursion to Windsor Castle, the last excursion on our trip.

Southampton was destroyed during WW II. Everyone wanted it rebuilt quickly and cheaply, so much of the work was given to the cement king of the area. Unfortunately, we couldn't get any decent pictures from the bus, and even if we had, who would care.

Southampton does have a lot of green common areas and parks. And they must have jobs, since housing is constantly being built.
* Windsor Castle is supposed to be Queen Elizabeth's favorite official residence. (Balmoral Castle in Scotland is private, not official.)
* Everything was well maintained, and there was not a trace of fire damage from the fire perhaps 15 years ago.
Old city walls common enough in Europe; some have been preserved in Southampton.
Memorial to the engineers who stayed in the engine room when the Titanic sank. The good news is that much more stringent safety regulations were put in place after the disaster. For example, you now have to have twice as many lifeboats as you would expect. Because the Titanic listed before it sank, the lifeboats on one side could not be deployed.
Queen Mary 2, the latest Cunard ship to be based in Southampton (although Queen Victoria is soon to be launched).
